I am reading a true Hodge Podge this month:

Starship Trooper - Robert Heinlein
Raising Stony Mayhall - Daryl Gregory
Coraline - Neil Gaiman
Go, Mutant - Larry Doyle (if I have time)
Patient Zero - Jonathan Maberry
Son - Lois Lowry (Recommendation by my local Librarian, Thanks Brianna!!)

It seems to be a zombie heavy list this month, but that was unintentional, when the books come into the library I have to take them or go back to the bottom of the list!

Got restless so I started too many books. Trying to finish Past Master by R. A. Lafferty. My go to book is Mythago Wood a very impressive fantasy by Robert Holdstock.

Just finished I am Legend. Now going on to Limits of Power by Elizabeth Moon. I've also got a book on the kindle which is pretty good reading - A Return Ticket by Tom Duke: one of the "it's under a 1 give it a go" books I pick up each month.

Since I am going to Lone Star Con I thought I should read up on some of the guests and participants. Read Carnival by Elizabeth Bear (also good for WofGF), doing a run of Joe Haldeman novels, starting with Old Twentieth and Mindsweep. Just finished James Gunn's first novel This Fortress World, and I have Ellen Datlows anthology of twenty years of horror starting from the 1980's. Also have Pat Cadigan on the list and Gregory Benford. Looking at Gary K. Wolfe's book of essays, Evaporating Genres. Could always round things off with some unread Robert Silverberg. Too ambitious, but I will see how far I get.

So far this month, Inheritor, Precursor, and Defender by C. J. Cherryh, books 3-5 of the Foreigner series. For Forays into Fantasy, The Worm Ouroboros by E. R. Eddison, and Agent of the Unknown by Margaret St. Clair for the challenge. I need to catch up on some reviews! Getting closer to finishing the massive Collected Stories of Carol Emshwiller, as well. Coming up: Cherryh's Explorer (book 6 and the end of the second trilogy), Pat Murphy's The Falling Woman, L. Ron Hubbards Slaves of Sleep. Soon the reading pace will slow as fall semester begins...

I read Brian Aldiss's Hothouse (not a huge fan of the book) and am now reading Sterling Lanier's Unforsaken Hiero (so far, a really good book).

I've been reading some Alfred Bester short stories. They're great! I will definitely be looking to expand my collection.

I read "Earth Abides" earlier in the month. I began "The Integral Trees" by Niven but stopped and put it away. Then I read "To Your Scattered Bodies Go" and its sequel, "The Fabulous Riverboat." I'm presently reading the third book in the series, "The Dark Design." I love this series so far. Very good stuff. Farmer's characterization of Sam Clemens was good because it seems consistent with historical accounts of the man. Putting Livy with Cyrano De Bergerac was a nice touch. I don't think the book would have been as good if we had a happy Mark Twain, contended in the heavenly afterlife with his loyal and loving Livy at his side. Highly recommended.

Just finished Joe Haldeman's Mindbridge. Not sure now whether to stick with Joe or keep on with Alfred :-)
