Ice, by Anna Kavan

"All this was real, it was really happening, but with a quality of the unreal; it was reality happening in quite a different way."

Anna Kavan's Ice is reality happening in a different way. It is a surreal dream. It is reminiscent of the works of Kafka, Jeffrey Ford, and William Burroughs, among others. It is a claustrophobic novel. It is a violent novel. Suffocating, bruising, it jerks the reader to-and-fro, abusing his/her sense of reality.
