Excellent example of hard science fiction, but I thought was too long. I think because Liu tries to over-characterize, but the effort isn't necessary, given the multitude of original SF elements. The Dark Forest concept is expanded upon with the ideas of using the universal laws of nature as things which can be modified and therefore used as weapons -- the slowing down of lightspeed at specific locations (effectively "trapping" a civilization) and the concept of multiple dimensions and dimensional folding are just 2 examples. I wish there had been a liitle bit more of the alien civilizations (we just get a brief glimpse).

A book of this quality from an international, non-Western author makes me wonder what other jewels of SF/fantasy are out there that have not been translated into English (or at least not as highly publicized and made so readily available to English readers). A worthy end to the trilogy.
