Freezing Rain, a Chance of Falling

I read a third of this story and just couldn't go any further. The main character is a shallow, self-absorbed a**hole whose inner monologue isn't even interesting. And the social reputation idea has been done in a lot of stories; I didn't see this one providing a novel take on it.
