Great world building and characters, a compelling plot with a few holes and a rubbish ending. The author has other short stories set in this world, so it is clearly well thought out, and her characters feel very real. Some great pop culture references also. But...

This first person story never leaves the main character, so we don't get to see how some things are resolved. Without getting into spoiler territory, the motivator behind the mystery doesn't feel right, and the resolution at the end doesn't make it any better. The MacGuffin must also connect to that motivator somehow, but it doesn't come up again. The entire last chapter feels extremely contrived, and still I am left with questions.

I want to read more, and will read the short stories. My motivation is to read more from this author, not to know more about this flawed world. Time to move on. 2½ stars.
