I loved this book! Possibly the last in an excellent series that spans nearly 35 years. There's not a lot of "galactic" action in this entry as it returns to its roots with Cordelia's story. Readers are finally given a revealing look into what her life has been behind her son Miles' adventures, so much more Betan than anyone expected. What unfolds is a touching story of what the loss of her husband Aral has meant to her and Admiral Jole, as they deal with their grief and make some additional significant changes in their lives. It almost seems like Cordelia's departure from Barrayaran public life could (but hopefully not) mirror Bujold's final exit from the series too. These books have always been about character development, rising to challenges and growing through them. This may be the best entry of them all.
