This is the first of the Alliance-Union novels I have read. I found this book interesting because of the economics and politics, but I do prefer a little more of the action as well. However, it's my understanding that the rest of Cherryh's books do tend to have more action in them, and that the very talky nature of this book is the result of trying to do setup for the rest of the series. I enjoyed this book but did not find it worldshaking. However, I think it will give me a good background for the rest of the series, and it certainly made me want to read the rest of the novels.
