What a pleasant surprise "Doomsday Morning" was. Suspecting more post-apocalyptic scenarios, it took a turn away from that. Written at a time when suspicions were high of a potential communist takeover of the United States, the country was still in the shadow of a possible nuclear war. Given the current threats to the nation, the story fits.
'Doomsday Morning' is more than just a post-apocalyptic tale. It's a spy novel set in a possible future, offering a different kind of thrill. If you're seeking a post-apocalyptic action-packed adventure, this might not be the right fit for you.
The issue of liberty versus state control for the good of the people is timeless and, one might say, of ever-growing importance. Our protagonist hangs in the balance, trying to decide which way to go.
