"Final Girls" are the horror flavor of the month, there are not one, but two Final Girl books nominated for this years (2021) Stoker Award. In addition to this one, Mr. Jones also wrote The Last Final Girl. In addition to Mr. Jones' obvious obsession there is, The Final Girl Support Group, Final Girls. I'm sure there are other, but these are the ones I have read in the last 12 months.

Chainsaw is the best of the lot so far. The protagonist and narrator, Jade, is the quirky combination of sage and unreliable narrator all wrapped up in one. This is definitely a slow burn sort of book. It was all character and scene development for about 1/2 the book. And when it is a 416 page book, that's a lot of character development for a group of people who end up dead very quickly when the killing does start.

The end is completely worth the build-up. And I did not see it coming AT ALL. I would not at all be surprised if this book wins the Stoker, but my choice would still be The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig.
