The Shining

King for a Year 2025

I devoured Stephen King when I was a kid, but many of these classics I have not read since my school years. This year I am going to (re)read as many Stephen King books as I can get my hands on. Even the mediocre ones.

I don't know when I originally read this book but I guess I never realized how narcissistic Jack Torrence was. Even before he was consumed by The Overlook, he was not a nice or good person. I know he was white knuckling his sobriety, but he blamed everyone else but his own self destructive nature. I must admit I like the ending to the book better than the ending to the Kubrick movie, even though the movie is great regardless what Stephen King thinks.
