For 1952 Science Fiction, I think it holds up. It's well written, with tight, graphic combat scenes. There is some excellent (and logical!!!) world building, including a very detailed scientific introduction to the planets geography and biology, as well as details regarding the Terra-Human Federation. The Aliens are interesting, with distinct tribal differences, customs and behaviours. I was very impressed with the Terran characters' diversity, as almost all had mixed ancestry with Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian and African representation. All the women were well portrayed, with several non combat communicators. There were no damsels in distress, helplessness or panic in response to a pretty brutal rebellion. The only "dated" indications, were they were constantly referred to as "girls". There's definitely enough here for me to dive further into Piper's Federation Universe.
