Anti-authoritarian author delivers a diatribe that may fit 2025 better than the 1930s. Hooray for followers as dumb as farm animals!
On this reading, propaganda was the thing that hit me hardest, plus the fate of the hens (an allegory of Holodomor). Attempts to change history anger me as much as burning books, and this is something I didn't think I would see in a modern world. June 4th and January 6th seek to prove me wrong, however.
This is a reread, and I've lost count how many times. Without fail, when I finish this book I have a strong craving to eat as much bacon and pork sausage as I can find.
If you haven't read this book, you definitely should - it's both short and crucial. Some books are more equal than others!
