1Q84 is bizarre. It's slow, surreal, meditative, and seems to be going out of its way to actively explain as little as possible. I was expecting answers that the book just never delivered, only giving enough hints to make me ask even more questions, and I loved it. The book has a strikingly strong plot, a small but perfect cast, some utterly fantastic prose (and I think I need to give at least a bit of credit to the translator there), and was an amazing experience overall. It has some flaws - some very 'men writing women' stuff in there - but it's such a phenomenal story overall that I really don't care too much. This was great, and it's not often I can find myself seriously considering rereading 1300 pages, but I know I'll be back to the world of 1Q84 sometime.
