Unless I am wrong the Hugo and Nebula awards are for science fiction. This book won them both, one of less than 20 novels to do so. Yet there is not a single moment of science fiction in this novel. Not one syllable. This annoyed me tremendously. But even if I ignored this fact and graded the book solely on the story I would only give the book a 3 or 4. The concept is interesting but the pacing of the story was terribly slow. It was not exciting. The story started to get a little exciting about 250 or so pages into the book. The excitement slowly petered out within a few pages. I skipped to the end of the book in ten page increments. Awful. Slow. Not science fiction. Oh, it was also full of gratuitous sex. Really no need for the sex scenes at all and there were about 5 of them. Amazing. I despised this book.
