A hard science fiction survival story set somewhere around 2050. Humanity has settled the Moon and conquered the Solar System. Tourist buses travel across the Moon's surface from its main port to show affluent visitors and residents its wonders. Due to a rare geological phenomenon, the dusty "sea" the tourist bus Selene traverses along is displaced, burying the bus and the occupants inside. The story follows the point of view of the passengers and crew as well as the numerous personnel tasked with finding them and rescuing them.
I recall finding this very dry the first time I read it. I preferred it upon this re-read. It's a fairly tense story and I enjoyed reading the parts concerning the passengers, their psychology, and how they passed the time and generally kept up morale. Lots of technical jargon to do with machinery and engineering towards the end when the rescue operation gets underway.
Would probably appeal to readers who enjoyed The Martian.
