Adjacent fiction that continues the story of Marcus Yallow from Little Brother. Masha was an antagonist that was somewhat sympathetic, and this story goes into why that is the case. It is also the story of Masha's redemption. Probably not necessary to read the earlier books, but I would recommend you do so - even though technology has changed a bit since they were first written.
What Masha can do is frightening, but of course that is the point. More frightening are Zyz and Xoth - but they end up feeling unrealistic to me. Released in 2020, this lacks the dictatorial bent of the current regime and their front line gestapo - and thank goodness they lack the technological savvy to achieve what the opposition does in this story.
There are a few short stories and novellas in this universe, I'll probably look for them somewhere. I know the author has versions on his website.
