One thing Chelsea Abdullah does well is her world-building. The large majority of this sequel is set in the magical realm of the jinn and ignites a starry, swash-buckling fantasy adventure.
Despite its hefty length, the series so far does read quite young and could easily be shelved under YA. The protagonists felt like teenagers, the themes are basic, and the plot is comfortably predictable, so I'm not sure what qualifies this story an adult fantasy besides the length.
But at the end of the day, I had a great time reading this adventure. There was not a single chapter where the characters weren't caught in a bind or up to some mischief and it was easy to be spirited away to the Sandsea and below. Can't wait for the final book in this trilogy!
