Second book, needs the third to complete the trilogy. Exciting character growth replaced by moodiness and doubts. Mistborn as a teen? Let's explore.
Story told from multiple points of view, mostly focused on two - Vin and Elend. Though they are arguably the main character, Sazed is the key driver of this narrative. Through him comes the world building that really made the first book for me.
The downtrodden, a major focus of the first book, dropped into the background and a lot of them flat-out died. The city is besieged, but yeah, that part is depressing. The other part (known going in) was this is the Empire Strikes Back to Star Wars - very much a sequel and very much a middle book. The best part is I don't have to wait three more years to read the sequel. Readers at the time didn't either - the first book came out in 2006 and the third in 2008.
Rated 4 stars for now, really this just shy of 4.5 - after I finish the third book, this might bump higher. Until then - it just wasn't as much fun as the first book, which was easily 5 stars.
Side note - has it really been nearly 10 years since anyone reviewed this on WWE? Why the gap - everyone pursuing the whole Stormlight Archive instead?
