Another fantasy adventure tied closely to D&D and Forgotten Realms, this second book relies on a lot of knowledge from the first.
Like the first, this is a solid story that connects more to the friendship and party building than the adventure. No flashbacks in this one. The story is told from multiple perspectives. Many (but not all) of the secrets that these folks kept from each other have been revealed, and the party (group of friends) is stronger for that.
A lot of the plot connects to the nature of the gods and Baldric's deals with them. While the names are drawn from the realms, the author provides enough hints that knowledge of that game setting are not required. The story starts in a rather famous adventure that many players (including me) have experienced, and this may also color the reading.
Considering what this group has defeated so far, I wonder what can be next? There are no further books at this time, but I would read another if it came out. Until then, I may check out this authors novelization of the film Honor Among Thieves.
