Here's a short summary:

Girls goes back in time. She's sent to the wrong year and everyone is sick, Everyone back in the present is sick too. She's stuck and I'm pulling the hair out of my head (I am bald) waiting for this thing to end.

I have no idea how this book won the long list of distinguished awards that it did. It's just, flat out, boring. Frankly I think the story could have been told in 60 pages, not the 580 it took. It's well written though. This is my first time reading Connie Willis and I like the way she writes.... but the story itself was just a huge yawn.

There are so many intresting ways the story could have gone. There are so many intresting twists and turns the story could have taken, it just never took any of them. Thinking back... the story is scarecely even SciFi. Sure there is time travel, and part of it is set in the near future, but those are insiginifcant aspects to the meat of the story. The book could have been, just as easily, written as a period piece with the main character (who I never came to care about) simply being a witness to the Plague.

I don't know..... The expectation for this book was through the roof. Hugo, Nebula, Clarke, NPR Top 100..... I'm just at a loss here.

My recommendation is don't waste your time.
