infectious malarial cells are about 9x3 micron lozenges

so, the largest known virus is ten times smaller than a easily mosquito-borne disease.

I mention this because as I was completing this series, the question of the size of the virus became increasingly more interesting to me than the static characters, the railroad plot or the "twists" obvious two books ago.
