I am not a fan of zombie fiction as a whole, though I did read World War Z,which is a template for much of the genre. This book I assume, despite the strong language,is aimed at the teen market.Certainly the characters are very simplified, and everyone is either a hero or double dyed villain, but they are fleshed out(! sorry, pun was unintended) enough to engage our attention, with a heroine of integrity(too goody goody to be true?) a shock twist, and lively action scenes, though we dont really see a lot of the zombies.Nicely worked out setting, showing the ramifications of how a society will have to deal with a horrific situation.Interesting extrapolations of the modern blogging world. All in all,the book seems to me to be a rose-tinted paean of praise to the role of an intrepid honourable press pitted against corruption and those who want to hide their sins.In these days of wikileaks,Assange and Snowdon, there are lots of things for thinking young people to ponder over.

All in all,an enjoyable read....but a Hugo nomination?Hmm,I dont think so.
