In the novel, 2312, Kim Stanley Robinson delivers a mystery about a series of seemingly unrelated accidents Robinson weaves many ideas and potentialities for human enhancement. He creates marvels of engineering, a city on Mercury that moves on tracks in order to stay in the darkness; asteroids hollowed-out as terrariums that cruise and transport throughout the solar system; and humans who are genetically engineered to adapt to their vastly different environments on the planets and the moons.
While I thoroughly enjoyed 2312, I didn't expect that I'd have to research (i.e. Google) so many scientific and historical references. So, it took me awhile longer to read and contemplate than I typically do.
