Paladin of Souls is good. It's not as great as Curse of Chalion, but that's okay. I enjoyed it well enough. Though, I have to be honest, I kind of found Ista to be one of the least interesting characters from the original book, and to discover that this whole novel follows her, kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

This is still a well-written book. There's a lot of action and romance and theological discourse. It's cool. Is it as cool as Caz breaking crow necks? No, but again, that's not a big problem.

I would say my biggest gripe with this story is the reveal of the villain. It doesn't happen until page 250 or something. Very, very late in the book. In Curse, we know Dondo is the bad guy, and we get a taste of him relatively quickly. Here, it's a pretty large buildup, and the payoff isn't as great as I had hoped.

Again, people should read this book. It's good. I still want to read the third in the series. Just keep in mind that Curse was the better novel.
