Women of Genre Fiction – Book 4

The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes

This was a random pick, as I saw it reviewed on the NPR website, and decided to read it for the WOGF challenge. I am very glad I did that.

A time travelling serial killer – who could resist that? Harper, the serial killer, is one creepy dude. The House is one creepy place. This book was creepy (that's a good thing in a serial killer - murder mystery book). This well written book jumped around in time, but was never difficult to follow. The reader is introduced to the Shining Girls briefly before they are murdered – bright, young lives cut short by an evil man, with the exception of one. Kirby survived her attack and the story centers on her efforts to find out who tried to murder her. The very end of the book was great – everything comes full circle.

This book was a pleasant surprise as some of the random fiction that I have read lately has been rather disappointing. It fits in many genres and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good read.
