This was the first Stephen King novel that I read. It was in the early nineties when I was a teenager and I can still remember large parts of the story.

IT is a huge novel, over 1000 pages in length. The bulk of the story is set in the 1950's and is about a group of children growing up and the horrible evil they have to face together. The rest of the book is set in the present day. The evil the children thought they had defeated returnes after many years and they honour a pact they made as kids if if should return to get together and defeat it again.

I enjoyed the start of the book, the reunion of the kids as they were adults and the large story set in th 50's. But I didn't enjoy the ending so much, I felt it was done at a frenetic pace, which sometims I like and sometimes not. However the monster is horribly realised and a really frightening thing.

There are some great characters in this book, mostly when they were children. I have recently read a new Stephen King novel where one of the main characters in IT is included which was a nice surprise and reminded me so much of this great novel.

This is definitely one of Stephen King's best novels and a real challenge to read. If you don't like long novels I would not recommend it. Every body else just plunge in and enjoy.
