I read This Perfect Day soon after it was published. It has always been on my list of memorable books, but it has faded in my memory, which says more about my memory than it does the book. So I reread it.

I remembered the general gist of the book but not the details. One thing that I did distinctly remember is a double plot twist at the end. On rereading I discover that there is no double plot twist at the end. So much for my memory. There is a nice plot twist before the climax, but not a double.

Nevertheless, this is a very good read. The climax would have made a good James Bond scene: Our hero confronts his nemesis and there are explosions and falling pillars and people in colored jumpsuits running about. But This Perfect Day is far from a Bond story. It's been favorably compared to 1984 and A Brave New World. I concur.

It's a good book. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
