Fun, but...

Boneshaker is the story of a teenage boy trying to clear the name of his father and a mother trying to rescue her son when he gets in way over his head. Around this are airships, mechanical marvels, and grime. The characters live in a world of hard work and fear because a decade ago one of the mechanical marvels was used to tear up a big chunk of Seattle and from the gash in the ground seeps a gas called "the blight" which corrodes and corrupts everything, turning metal to rust and people to zombies.

Thematically, I enjoyed this being a story about the relationship between a mother and son and disliked the theme of evil mechanical engineers, i.e. the mad scientist as villain trope.

Overall this is a fun book as long as you don't think too hard about it.
