I started reading this as part of an ongoing challenge to read the original sf masterworks series, or should I say reread as I initially tried to read it in my teens and failed to get past chapter two. This time round I appreciated it much more. In a way it isn't even a novel and feels more like a presentation of the processes involved in a real engineering feat. This makes it sound dry but it was fascinating. Some drama is instilled in the final section which seemed reminiscent of "a fall of moondust" and the epilogue seemed to hint at further stories to be told. Very enjoyable.
