Depressing but worth having read

Well fuck that was depressing. More depressing than Seveneves, less depressing than A Canticle for Leibowitz. My mind strains against the idea that mankind might not be as indomitable and resilient as imagined by countless other science fiction authors, but I see how this is still an important story to have out there. I could quibble all day about how I think humanity would or would not behave in these circumstances, but in the end, it is an effective book for exploring the idea (equally as unfalsifiable as the inverse) that humanity is not special.
