The trouble with Zelazny for those not familiar with his outstanding work is sticking with a confusing beginning or not getting the context of what you are reading. The story starts with a bloke on an island with a beautiful girl and he then goes to a party with normal social politics involved and one of the guests happens to be blue - so what? Best advice is to stick with the book because as soon as the tour of ancient Earth's wonders amidst radiation hot spots, starts off on a breakneck paced adventure with vampires, mutants, a giant dog and a group of people who want to kill their fellow blue traveller but our hero strangely defending him. This is a great book which many would have given up on and missed out.

A close second to his other Hugo winner: Lord of Light, but the pace and characters make it clear this is the same amazing writer.
