I read ERBs Thuvia Maid of Mars as a teen, tried it but couldnt get into it,and abandoned it after a few chapters. I now realize that the change from John Carter's first person narrative,(a Virginian gentleman transplanted to Mars gave that extra kick to the first trilogy),to his son Carthoris's bland third person narration wasnt too exciting,Carthoris is a mere shadow of his father IMO,and the story was quite repetitious. But as ever the descriptions of the land and dead cities and the obligatory new race threw up some points of interest. But its all inferior to the John Carter books.
