Soooo, as soon as I saw the book began with a Ted Bundy epigraph for the prologue, I thought "this is the book for me". ;And then it totally altered my perception on sentience and communication, and intelligence, and intelligence life out there. Whooooah. Definitely, this is going to be my book of the year. Surely nothing can top this. I've never had a book change my perspective on *anything* before, and I've always been a pretty voracious reader. The first 100 pages? I was totally lost. Each page was a total drag, and I struggled to hold on. I felt so stupid, too - which was my fault, not the book's. I'm just not smart enough for the first third of it. That's okay. Because after 100-ish pages? It all clicked into place. And I finished the other 200 pages in one mad dash to the finish line while I sucked all the goodness out of it like marrow from a bone. It was outrageously good. Everyone should read it.
