Sloppily written, there is a framing story of boys creating copies of the book which is a diary in first person. Then, inexplicably it shifts to third person. At times in shifts to omniscient and details events that would be unkown to the diarist and would not be in the book being copied.

All the standards apocalyse tropes are here: waking up in a hospital bed, winters last longer than any other season etc.

The book is also rtakes a very dim view of men which may appeal to some. After the plague and the veneer of civilization is removed 99% of the men become gangbanging rapists. Of course we would.

Until, equally inexplicably, she finds a bunch who aren't and then everyone lives happily ever after except the rapists (the 99.99% of men who are left) who are hunted down and killed.
