I wanted to like it, but it seemed to be trying to look like hard sci-fi, while including obvious improbabilities and impossibilities. Grain grew in the depths of caves. Huge herds of herbivores wander the ice and snow covered plains where winter lasts for centuries-- what exactly are they supposed to be eating for generations? Something indistinguishable from humans apparently have evolved independently on Hellconia, along with another sapient with a totally different biochemistry.

Maybe the later books provide info that makes other things make sense, but it wasn't an enjoyable enough read to find out. Maybe i just don't get it.
