Battlestar Galactica, by series creator Glen A. Larson and co-writer Robert Thurston, was a pleasant surprise. It is much deeper and richer than I anticipated and turned out to be a fine science-fiction, more aptly space opera, novel. Basically a novelization of the first three episodes of the 1978 TV program, the book goes deeper into the motivations, biology, culture, and psychology of the Cylons than the show ever did. The characters of Adama, Apollo, and Starbuck are well portrayed, the secondary characters are handled well, and the plot is a bit more cohesive than what played out on the television screen. The writing itself is very good and I ended up enjoying this novel much more than I anticipated I would. Battlestar Galactica the novel is a good and enjoyable companion to a rewatch of Battlestar Galactica the 1970s TV show.
