This is the first Alastair Reynolds I've read. It could be the last.

Revelation Space is heavy on description and light on character development. This is not an easy read. The writing is hard and sharp and twisted. It reads as if someone threw a bomb into the story and we are reading the fragments. About halfway through, some of the fragments start to fit together, but just barely. I could not recount for you the story line. In the end we do figure out what's going on, just a little bit. There were numerous mentions of 'revelation space', but I have no idea what revelation space is. For the most part, I didn't understand the characters' motivations. Why did they do what they did. I don't know. In some cases I didn't even know who was doing it.

I did not care for this book, but I did finish it.
