Thank you for signing up JS.

I think this could be a very easy challenge (if you're into these particular subgenres) and works well with many of the other challenges.

A notion that got batted around one of the Futures list serve this month was the idea that we (Americans in particular) can more easily imagine the end of the world, than we can imagine the end of the capitalism system. (See this years crop of summer block busters for reference.) And yet, when you really start doing high level trend analysis and possible outcomes, there's nothing intrinsically improbable. It's possible, some would even say a preferred future.

Hi everyone! I joined this challenge after realizing I had already read 9 EotW books and will be at least another 3 by the end of the year.

Welcome spoltz! The end of the world is a hot topic in sff so it's pretty easy to find books to qualify for this challenge.

State of the Challenge (as of today Sept. 3)

17 participants
97 books read
41 books reviewed

1 participant has completed the challenge and several others are very close with 10 or 11 books read.

Three of my favorite books so far this year have been read for the End of the World Challenge - A Gift Upon the Shore, Mockingbird, and When She Woke.

Is everyone enjoying the books they are reading?

This one contained many authors that I had been meaning to read for a long time--Maureen McHugh, Suzy Charnas, Cory Doctorow, Lauren Beukes, and Lois Lowery. I was won over by all their books, except for Beukes' Moxyland. However, Emil has talked me into giving Beukes another chance (Well, I was going to anyway, but he is such a good advocate)
