Suggestion for a fantasy subgenre

Hi, I think this has come up for me several times when shelving books on the site: a subgenre option that's missing from the dropdown menu is PORTAL FANTASY. I'd suggest adding this if it isn't too much trouble.

Option for books published by year

On the books published by year page, the listing is in alphabetical order of the book title. Would it be possible to add an option to sort alphabetically by author? When looking for new books, titles are not always informative unless I've read about that book somewhere else. On the other hand, I routinely look for new releases from authors I know. Listing by author would make browsing much more efficient.

Featured Author

Good morning,

It seems that Tochi Onyebuchi has been the "featured author" for a very long time. I'd like to the see the featured author change more often so that I can learn about authors that I might otherwise never discover.

LitRPG books and their authors excluded from the site

Is there a reason we don't recognize any LitRPG books on this website? I completely understand that this website is solely dedicated to SciFi, Fantasy, and Horror, but almost all of these LitRPG books are based on these genres. Additionally, their authors don't have any mention.

Let's take a quick look at one series that has become pretty popular / mainstream: Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. The series consists of 7 books, to date, set on earth after an alien race has initiated an apocalyptic event killing off most of humanity in order to harvest the planet for resources. The survivors of the event made their way underground and unknowingly entered into a multi-level dungeon that serves as the backdrop for universally syndicated reality tv show. It is loaded with fantastical beast such as, goblins, zombies, demons, gods, gnomes, shapeshifters, and vampires. Magic and Technology are widely used, as well as a wide variety of weapons and armors.

How can this not be considered SciFi / Fantasy? Is the fact that there is a leveling system for the characters the sole detractor from adding this series, and others like it, from this site. Is it a formatting issue as many LitRPG books are exclusively audiobooks? 95% of the books I "read" are audiobooks that I am listening to on my daily commutes. Not to mention, as I write this, I'm staring at hardcovers of the first three books of the series, sitting on a bookshelf in my office.

There are tons of series in the genre that should be on here, and I believe LitRPG should definitely be included on WWEnd as nothing less than a sub-genre. Lets give these authors the credit they deserve and open up their works to people who might not even know they exist.

I noticed when scanning other peoples favorites and book lists, if there is a book you have both read, it doesn't indicate the surrounding color in green. It would be nice to see that so you could see a quick comparison and know what ones in their lists you have read.

Hi, a book that you've added for me lacks an author picture. I have seen pictures of her on the web but i can't tell if there are copywrite issues if I post a copy of the picture for you to add. How do I tell if it is okay to post to you? Thanks!

Horror: Another 100 Best Books List

I was looking at some authors on ISFDB, and I came across a list called Horror: Another 100 Best Books. I think this is the sequel book to Horror: 100 Best Books. This sequel book/list might be a good list to add so that more horror books can be added to the database.

I don't know if this is the best place to suggest a new book list or not. Maybe down the road somebody could add this list possibly. As far as I know, I couldn't find this sequel list on the present database.

William

Please add a reread option to My History in 3.0

Currently, there are Read, Reading and Not Reading as options in My History. If I want to add a reread to a challenge, I need to cancel the read status and move to reading status to be able to add it to a challenge. This brings the reader count in book tracker down by one. If there was a reread option, it wouldn't reduce the reader count and I could see at at a glance which books are rereads and which were new.
Thanks

List of Important Short Story Collections

Has WWE considered making a list of important short story collections? I think it would be most useful if there was a separate list of single author collections and one of anthologies. Maybe even another one listing every year's best collection since the 1940's.

Sub-Genres

Since you've added the Guardian list, there are several books that don't quite fit the categories in the sub-genre pull down menu any more. Many of them do fit the category Magic Realism. I was wondering if you would be able to add that category to the menu. Are there other categories that WWE users think would be appropriate for the books on the Guardian list?

Thanks,

Rhonda
