Is there any list of the books indexed by WWE (esp. nominated or included in lists) which are available as free ebooks (public domain, CC license)? I think a list of such books would be of interest to those of us on a budget ;-)

Based on my knowledge I would list the following:
- Charles Stross "Accelerando"
- Peter Watts "Blindsight"
- many (all?) books by Cory Doctorow, most notably "Little Brother"
- four books by Verne
- Frankenstein
- Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court"
- all books by HG Wells
Did I miss any important entries?

There are books on Project Gutenberg by Andre Norton and EE Doc Smith and others which were apparently not renewed.

Copyright's a tangled web, though. HG Wells is not out of copyright in many parts of the world until 2017, 70 years from his death in 1946.

Karl Schroeder's Ventus is another one available on a Creative Commons license. I thought there were a couple more of Peter Watts' books, too.

Here's the link to WWE's resource list, but I don't think it has been updated in a long time.

Tor.com eventually makes all of its short fiction free as an epub, in addition to what's on their website. This includes novelettes and novellas. Off the top of my head, there's Wakullah Springs, Unlocked: An Oral History of Haden's Syndrome, Burning Girls, and Lady Astronaut of Mars. Those just happen to be the ones that I've read.

Some of them are award nominees, though the DB doesn't yet have options for tagging shorts like that.

All of Tor.com's Original free short fiction can be found here.

They have selections from this available in free annual collections in Kindle format here.

And most of the individual Tor.com Originals are available in Kindle format from $0.00 to $0.99.

Links to a lot of free SFF are available at the Free Speculative Fiction Online DB, which includes some novels, but this is mostly short story / novelette / novella territory.

Peter Watts has made 5 novels available free online:

Almost all of Cory Doctorow's novels have been made available for free by him.

Project Gutenberg has a lot of older Science Fiction and Fantasy available for free online.
