Just finished this book a few weeks ago. There is an oddly large amount of fantasy in the novel (mind-operated teleportation, for example), but I guess it's more of a space opera than a Hard SF story. Lots to love here. Revenge stories always provide tons of entertainment, and this is sort of like The Count of Monte Cristo meets Firefly.

Part of me prefers the novel's original title Tiger! Tiger!, but by the time I finished the story I was leaning towards the revised title again.

Not sure what to make of Bester's commentary on religion, or even if he's really trying to make one. Organized religion is outlawed in the future, apparently to be replaced by an apotheosis of the human race. It's an intriguing theme, but Bester only hints at it.

They've been trying to make this a movie for a long time. They're now pretty close.

I still have to read it.
