Forty Thousand in Gehenna examines the founding and subsequent development of a human colony on a new planet. C.J. Cherryh's story spans three centuries and is very gratifying in its unfolding and conclusion. The world of Gehenna that Cherryh describes, populates, and evolves in Forty Thousand is truly remarkable. This is a novel of great imagination and insight, and it is very believable too. The time I spent on Gehenna was entertaining and enlightening. This is a wonderful book.
