A little too close to real-world politics right now to make it pleasant reading

In a near-future world run by global micro-democracies organized by geographic groups of 100,000 people, and elections held every 10 years to determine which party has primacy in the world government, an ostensibly-neutral global Information organization attempts to ensure that the public is well-educated on facts rather than propaganda.

While the political machinations in the book bear a large resemblance to those of the current day, I don't see any plausible way to get to that setup from the current one.

It's an interesting thought experiment; it bears a lot of similarities to Genevieve Valentine's 2015 novel Persona, but I liked this novel much better. and if you're willing to roll with the idea of the setup without questioning how it came about, the book is reasonably interesting. But I found toward the latter part of the novel, it felt to me as though it had turned into a bit of a slog.

I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it. And it's a little too close to real-world politics right now to make it pleasant reading.
