In the final novel of the original Riftwar series, Raymond Feist puts together a solid conclusion to the series. The novel has two main storylines to it. First, and the more fulfilling of the two, is Prince Arutha's quest to stop the approaching army of Murmandamas. This storyline is well developed and very engaging. At points the battles rival those in the Lord of the Rings novels. The characters accompanying Prince Arutha all have well developed and satisfying character arcs.

The second storyline follows Pug, the main magician character of the first two novels. This storyline was less satisfying. Pug's powers develop rapidly and in my opinion his storyline is diminished by these incredible powers, such as time travel. At times it feels like there is nothing he can't accomplish. It detracts from the young magician character we knew in the first two books who was slow to develop his abilities and struggled to become a capable wizard. It suits the final battle with the godlike Valheru, but I feel lime I would have enjoyed his storyline more if it were less cosmic. Overall it was a good conclusion to the series and an enjoyable read.
