A solid continuation of the Morgaine cycle. I found the secondary character Jhirun more interesting and compelling than protagonists Morgaine and Vanye. Nonetheless, Cherryh does a fine job of delving into Vanye's motivations and of describing Morgaine's drive and 'otherness'. It was a bit tricky keeping track of all of the 'factions' in the world of Shiuan, but not so much so that it detracted from the overall enjoyment of the story. The world of Shiuan itself is a compelling setting for the tale. A very good book indeed.
