An amazing fantasy/scifi/steampunk novel. The imagery is unbelievable. So many various species of intelligent beings, a complete alternate reality, crazy analog steampunk machinery, and uhmm...inter species bug sex lol. I really dug this book right up until the end.
The book is essentially about a mad scientist who gets in way over his head. There's many intertwined sub plots and the story switches perspective throughout telling a lot of those stories from the parties perspective.
I loved the first 90% of the book...but then the final battle happens...out of nowhere a plot device shows up that I don't recall ever being mentioned in the book, so it's a bit detracting when otherwise the situation seems quite grim. Then after the story ends, another major plot reveal happens and you're just totally like well wtff...The end is really quite strange.
What I really want is to read a book about the fractured land where the slake moths came from and about all the effects of torque bombs. That sounded fascinating!
