All the Birds in the Sky

An unusual story- Science fiction meets fantasy. It is the relationship, begun in early childhood, between a girl, Patricia, with magical talents, a witch, and a boy, Laurence, who is a tech genius. Their parents don't understand them, don't appreciate them for who they are. They go their separate ways, find their separate tribes, and meet again much later. The world is deteriorating, civilization is crumbling; the end of humankind, maybe, is in sight. Laurence and his cohorts develop a device they believe can create a wormhole to another universe, but at great risk. Patricia's people see it as a Doomsday Machine and attack and destroy it. Laurence's group, without his help, retaliate causing widespread destruction. Patricia and Laurence find each other, and together form a bond between technology and nature, (the singularity?) and walk hand in hand into the purple sunset to live happily ever after?

The writing is uneven, undisciplined. The language is occasionally a little too millennial for my taste. 'He was like..." instead of "He said..." And occasionally using the foulest of language in the narrative. It's alright in dialog if it's not overdone, but please not in the narrative. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. I can't think of anything to compare it to.
