This book brings us back to the Home for Wayward Children where the daughter of Sumi, who died in the first book, has arrived and needs help making sure her mother doesn't die or she herself will not exist. It's a problem and a group of students, some new characters and some we have met before, take on the challenge. We get to learn more about the different worlds the connections among them. Plus, we travel to a couple of the worlds which is fun. One strength of McGuire's stories are her strongly drawn characters and the emotional realness of their personalities. We meet some new characters that I almost immediately want to just hug and we learn more about some of the characters we already know. I hope there will be more installments in the series because there is a lot more to explore in these worlds.
