This Philip K. Dick Award finalist is a really enjoyable and imaginative space adventure, with a likeable but motley crew who is faced with a mystery and a formidable enemy of which the rest of humanity is not even aware.
The alien races are interesting, and the worldbuilding is inventive. There is some violence and some body-horror for those who might be averse. I found the sequel, The Dreaming Stars, a worthy follow-up as well.
