Like Phoresis and Noumenon, this is a story of colonists which takes place over generations, on a planet with intelligent plant life and hostile alien colonists. (Sounds kind of bizarre, but the plant stuff is well-researched, and she totally makes it work.)
As with Phoresis and Noumenon, this means that the reader never really gets to know any of the characters well, or gets too invested in them. However, the worldbuilding is excellent. People with a special interest in horticulture or agriculture will probably find it fascinating.
Unfortunately, there is a rape scene occurring early in the story, which was really not necessary to the character's motivations. If the reader can get past that, it's otherwise an excellent book.
Content warning for some violence and a rape.
